Opening and Closing a Session

A POS session represents one shift at the counter — open it when you start, close it at end of day.

Open a session

Point of Sale ▸ Dashboard ▸ OPEN

Click Open on your POS terminal to start a session. Enter the opening cash float — count the cash in the drawer and enter the total. Click Open Session. The POS interface loads and you are ready to process sales.

Cash float The opening cash float is the starting cash in the register. It is subtracted from the closing count to calculate the day's cash sales. Use a consistent float amount — e.g. MYR 200 — to make end-of-day reconciliation easier.

Process a sale

Select products from the product pad or search by name or barcode. The order lines appear on the right. Click Payment when the customer is ready. Select the payment method — Cash, Card, or configured e-wallets. Enter the amount tendered for cash (Odoo calculates change). Click Confirm. The receipt prints or is sent by email or WhatsApp.

Close a session

Close ▸ CLOSE

At end of shift, click the menu and select Close. Count the physical cash and enter the closing count for each denomination. Odoo shows the expected cash (opening float + cash sales) vs your count. Explain any difference. Click Close and Validate to finalise the session. The session's sales are posted to accounting.
